The Dutchman holds a 10-2 singles record, including a 4-1 mark against ranked opponents.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Wake Forest men's tennis standout Mees Rottgering has been named the ACC Freshman of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.
The honor marks the third Freshman of the Week recognition for Rottgering this season and continues an impressive debut campaign for the Demon Deacon.
Rottgering played a key role in Wake Forest's perfect 2-0 ACC road weekend, helping lead the No. 4 Demon Deacons to victories over No. 62 Miami (4-0) and No. 49 Florida State (4-3).
On Friday in Coral Gables, Rottgering teamed with sophomore Kacper Szymkowiak to help secure the doubles point with a commanding 6-1 victory on court two as the duo remained unbeaten together.
He then followed up Sunday with one of the biggest performances of the weekend in Wake Forest's comeback victory at Florida State. With the Deacs trailing in the match, Rottgering battled back after dropping the first set to defeat No. 76 Erik Schiessl on court one, 4-6, 6-0, 6-2, leveling the team score and shifting momentum back to Wake Forest.
Rottgering also contributed in doubles in Tallahassee, pairing again with Szymkowiak to earn a 6-4 win on court two and help clinch the doubles point for the eighth-consecutive match.
With the strong weekend, the freshman improved to 10-2 overall in singles this season and 4-1 against ranked opponents, continuing to establish himself as one of the ACC's top newcomers.
The Demon Deacons moved to 17-2 overall and 4-0 in ACC play following the two road victories and have now won 10-straight matches.
Wake Forest returns to action this weekend, opening a six-match homestand beginning Friday against Notre Dame at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex.
